Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) was given the honour to set up
the Institute of Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's Thoughts (IPDM) on
August 19th, 2003, by the government of Malaysia
through the Ministry of Education, then.
The idea to initiate this institute was formulated at the 54th
UMNO Delegates Meeting on June 19th, 2003. The
think tank comprising prominent experts was subsequently formed.
The group met on August 28th, 2003 in Kuala Lumpur.
IPDM is to function as a reference centre for the visions and
thoughts of The Honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia. It also responsible for
examining and analyzing ideas that could be espoused by the
present and the future generations. The initiation of this
institute is also a move towards honouring the efforts of the
nation's leaders.
In addition, the institute acts as a research front besides
organising seminars, symposia, colloquia, and gathering of
relevant resources on the thoughts of The Honourable Prime
Minister of Malaysia and nation's pertaining to education, the leadership of
youths, security, governance, politics, Islamic banking,
relationship between the various religions, foreign policies and
globalizations issues, science and technology including ICT,
human resource and a host of other areas.
Vision:
To be the refferal centre for The Honourable Prime Ministers of
Malaysia and nation's leaders.
Mission:
To intensify and consolidate the thoughts of The Honourable
Prime Minister of Malaysia and nation's leaders.
Objectives:

To be the main research, collecting and
refferal centre in all aspects of thought, discourses and
leadership;

To scrutinize and analyze the structure of
thought whice can be utilized by the present and the future generations at the
national and international level;

To be centre of
intellectual discourse for national and international
leadership;

To translate the thoughts
into academic and professional programmes and activities.

To legislate and implement national endurance
policies.
